party pics: mixture

I had a fantastic time at Forum 35’s MIXTURE, which was held last Friday at the Lyceum Dean downtown. This event is one of Forum 35’s cultural diversity initiatives and as the title suggests, it’s meant to celebrate Baton Rouge’s rich and diverse culture. All proceeds from this year’s event benefit the BR Walls Project.

Among the evening’s highlights was an avant-garde design competition. LSU fashion design students drew inspiration from the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist and more as they transformed mundane cultural images into wearable works of pop art. Models donned the design students’ ensembles for a runway show as TJ Black painted live in the background. It was a complete sensory experience—I listened to music by a DJ and took in live painting and a runway show all while sipping a cocktail (or bevvy as my W closet friends would call it).

Check out photos from the event below to see what I mean…

P.S. – bear with me, I don’t have everyone’s name listed at this moment because I don’t have my handy dandy notepad on me. Will update the post soon with the names of each person photographed!

MIXTURE’s fabulous co-chairs: Jacqueline Stalls & Eric Dexter (love that they’re both rocking cobalt blue and jade–two of this season’s “it” colors). Did they coordinate that?

The Lyceum Dean used to be a bank back in the day and its vault is still completely intact. Some of the folks with the BR Walls Project brought in carpet, candles, chairs, lamps, and a sofa to transform the vault into a hang out spot for VIPs before the runway show. I was smitten with the whole endeavor.

See the old safety deposit boxes? Pretty sweet.

Well I’m off to my sister’s bachelorette party in a few hours and I’ve got lots to do before then…like make cookies shaped like a certain male organ (hehe!).

I hope these photos inspire you to do something fun and worthwhile with your weekend. Cheers!
